The Corpus Christi ISD Board of Trustees adopted a policy restricting the use of personal communication devices during the school day, following legislation passed by the 89th Texas Legislature.

The policy, approved during the July 28 Board of Trustees Meeting, will require all students to keep devices off and put away throughout the school day.

Detailed information about Texas House Bill 1481 is available on the Texas Legislature’s website.

District officials studied the new legislation and recommended a policy for adoption by the Board of Trustees. During the 2024-2025 school year, students in grades PK-8 were required to keep personal devices turned off and put away throughout the school day, and students in grades 9-12 were permitted to use devices between classes and during lunch.

Students who violate district policy or regulations will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
